BritPop '99, the third
installation of the BritPop series, took place on July 10, 1999, and was a smashing
success! Activities included the BritPop Soccer Shootout, the BritPop Trivia Contest, the
BritPop coronation, and the ever-popular Spice Girls karoke/dance performance. The
management of BritPop would like to thanks its gracious hosts, King Charlie and Queen
Lynette, and everyone else who helped make BritPop '99 the best BritPop yet!

Take a look at this cover. Who has the most staying power: Pacino? No.
The Beach Boys? Nah. Wayne Gretzky? He retired. Duran Duran
has proved timeless.

Food selections were expanded this year, and included Fish and Chips (though without a deep fryer, the host asks you to limit your expectations) and the largest Shepherd's Pie west of Liverpool. Scones will not be included because they are nasty and usually more dense than gold bricks.
Beverage selections for BritPop '99 included: Bass Ale, Newcastle Brown Ale, Boddington's, Woodpecker Cider, Carlsberg Lager (yes, we know it's not English, but Carlsberg is the sponsor of the England National and Liverpool football clubs), room-temperature soft-drinks (because, for some odd reason, that's how they drink them in the British Isles), and Beck's (again, we know it's not English, but it is the nickname of England's finest midfielder, Manchester United Spiceboy David Beckham).
BritPop prizes were also expanded in '99, and included the following:
A Michael Owen Liverpool Football Club warm-up jersey (for those of you who don't know, Michael Owen is the teenage sensation of English football and the player who scored the goal that was selected as the finest goal of last summer's World Cup in France).
A NEW Spice Girls concert t-shirt (without that redcoat "Ginger" Geri Halliwell).
A Villanova Hockey t-shirt (though it has no ties to the U.K., it is included for obvious reasons).
Random Teletubbies paraphernalia
And more!
An added feature to BritPop in 1999, the BritPop Soccer Shootout was won by Dan Cleary! Dan captured the Michael Owen Liverpool t-shirt in dramatic fashion, by bouncing his kick off the board, then into the air and off the pavement, before finally landing in the net to win the competition! Congratulations and enjoy the shirt Dan!
